Our POV

"I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust
my sails to always reach my destination."
- Jimmy Dean

  • Financial Planning

Individuals have complex financial lives. Our robust financial plans address needs ranging from basic insurance coverage to charitable goals.

Our aim is to increase our client partners’ comfort with their understanding of wealth, without increasing their cost of living.

The first step is improving the organization of assets: understanding where assets are held, how quickly the value is growing and what expenses are being deducted.

Whether a family’s net worth is $1mm, $10mm or $100mm, they will have a mix of basic needs, luxuries and legacies. A well-constructed financial plan will address each of these layers.

  • Investment Management

We manage diversified portfolios of equity and fixed income assets with a focus on steady returns and low fees.

We are investment omnivores. We search for new opportunities, regardless of whether they're structured as mutual funds, exchange traded funds (ETFs) or individual securities.

We like to mix Conifer Bay Capital managed portfolios with clients’ legacy, low-cost basis assets. We also encourage clients to manage a portion of their own portfolios.

    Our philosophy
Concentrate: Better a handful of great investments than a warehouse of mediocre ones
Be Adventuresome: Look for what is new and unrecognized
Keep It Simple: Beware of complexity

    Examples of assets managed internally
Investment grade bonds: federal tax exempt municipal and corporate bonds
Income-oriented equity strategies: Master Limited Partnerships (MLPs) and Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs)
Option strategies: Covered calls and overlay strategies
Concentrated/low cost basis assets: Maximizing after-tax returns

Examples of assets managed through other managers/funds/ETFs
    U.S. small- and mid-cap equities
    Emerging market equities
    Foreign equities
    High-yield bonds and bank loans

  • Family Governance

Wealth can divide families at times. Family Governance is a tool to connect family members, even ones with different priorities.

Family Governance is a topic many families and wealth managers avoid, yet it can have a greater impact than financial planning or investing.

Client partners want their children and grandchildren to be good stewards of family wealth, inheriting the key values that built and maintained a family.

We help identify those character traits important to our clients, and incorporate them into formal or informal family meetings.
